Pre Care

Microneedling

alert

Please do not arrive on an empty stomach. Come with a clean face, free of makeup, and hair secured away from your face so your provider can treat you comfortably and precisely. If helpful, please bring photos of yourself in normal settings without filters, both photos you do and don’t like, so we can better understand your goals.

If you have used Accutane (isotretinoin) within the past 6 months, please let us know in advance — microneedling may not be the right treatment for you at this time.

Special Events

Plan around your appointment thoughtfully. Mild redness and swelling typically resolve within 1–4 days, with light flaking or dryness for up to 7–10 days. While most patients return to work and social activities within 24 hours, avoid scheduling major events — photography, speaking engagements, weddings — for at least 3–5 days post-treatment.

Dental Appointments

If getting lower facial treatments, please ensure that you do not have any dental appointments for 2 weeks before or after treatment.

PRE-CARE POLICIES

Before Appointment

Avoid sun exposure, tanning beds, self-tanners, and spray tans in the two weeks before your appointment. Microneedling on tanned, sunburned, or compromised skin increases the risk of pigmentary changes.

Use only gentle cleansers and keep your skin well-moisturized during this window.

Before Appointment

To help minimize bruising and swelling, begin avoiding blood-thinning medications, foods, and supplements — unless prescribed for a medical condition.

Common blood-thinning items to avoid include:

  • Advil, ibuprofen, and Motrin
  • Almonds and almond milk
  • Fish oil
  • Garlic and ginger
  • Green tea
  • Salmon and sushi
  • Workout supplements and other nutritional supplements

If you regularly use pain relievers, Tylenol (acetaminophen) is safe to use, as it does not thin the blood. Always consult your physician before making changes, and avoid Tylenol if it is contraindicated with your medical history or current medications.

Begin taking Arnica to help minimize bruising and swelling, unless you are allergic or it is contraindicated with any of your medications or medical conditions (including high blood pressure). Arnica is available in our office, at Vitamin Shoppe, or on Amazon. Please follow the dosage instructions on the label, and consult your provider or physician if you are unsure whether it’s appropriate for you.

Discontinue retinoids, tretinoin, AHAs, BHAs, and any active exfoliating products this week.

Before Appointment

Avoid alcohol, as it can increase the risk of bruising.

Day Of Appointment

Arrive with a clean face, free of makeup. Hair should be secured away from your face.

Microneedling cannot be performed over damaged skin — including sunburns, active acne breakouts, cold sores, or open lesions. If your skin is compromised, please contact our office to reschedule.
