Post Care

Chemical Peels

alert

Your provider may have included boosters such as Perfect Derma Clear, Plus, or Plus Plus to address specific concerns like acne, pigmentation, or texture. If this applies to your treatment, you will receive additional instructions — please follow those guidelines if they differ from the ones below. If you are unsure, contact us for clarification.

Peeling reactions vary based on skin type, application method, and individual factors. Even if visible peeling is minimal, cellular exfoliation is still taking place and will benefit your skin.

If you received a light-depth peel (such as a glycolic, lactic, or salicylic acid peel performed during a facial), your post-care is simpler: avoid retinoids and other active ingredients for 3–5 days, protect your skin from the sun, and contact us if you experience blistering, recurring sores, or unexpected reactions. The detailed instructions below apply to medium-depth Perfect Derma Peel patients.

Please contact us at (610) 393-1253 if you experience:

  • Blistering or skin that appears broken, oozing, or weeping
  • Severe or spreading redness beyond the treated area
  • Swelling that worsens instead of improves, especially around the eyes or lips
  • Signs of infection (drainage that resembles pus, increasing warmth or tenderness after Day 2, or fever)
  • Rash or hives, particularly if accompanied by itching or swelling
  • Recurring blisters or sores, which may indicate a herpes outbreak

If it is after hours, leave a message and we will follow up within 24 hours. If you believe you are experiencing a medical emergency, call 911.

POST-CARE POLICIES

Day Of

The peel solution should remain on the treated areas for at least 6 hours. Do not wash, touch, rub, or apply SPF or makeup to treated areas during this time. The peel will self-neutralize after 6 hours and can be removed at that time, or left on overnight if desired. Any gentle cleanser may be used to remove it.

The treated area may feel tight and appear darker. Underlying pigmentation spots may also appear darker — this is expected.

The Post Peel Moisturizer provided in your home care kit may be used after six hours, but only under the following conditions:

  • Your skin feels excessively irritated or uncomfortable
  • You have a Fitzpatrick Skin Type IV–VI, or a history of melasma or hyperpigmentation
  • A booster such as Perfect Derma Clear, Plus, or Plus Plus was added during your treatment

On Day 2 (AM)

  • Gently cleanse and pat dry the treated areas using the provided cleanser.
  • Using the 1st Post Peel Towelettevigorously apply the solution to the entire treated area while the towelette is still folded in its square shape.
  • As the towelette begins to dry out, unfold it fully and continue applying until the entire solution has been used.
  • Allow the skin to air dry for 30 minutes before applying Mineral Perfection SPF 30.
  • Makeup may be applied, if desired and if the skin remains intact and comfortable.

On Day 2 (PM)

  • If you are experiencing irritation or are a Fitzpatrick IV–VI, apply a small amount of Post Peel Moisturizer 2–3 times daily. If the Post Peel Moisturizer irritates your skin, you can substitute it with 1% over-the-counter hydrocortisone cream and may also add a gentle, non-comedogenic moisturizer if desired. If there is no significant irritation, do not use moisturizing products until the treated areas begin peeling, usually on Day 3.

Avoid excessive sweating, swimming, saunas, heavy exercise, and sun exposure during the peeling process — these can cause irritation or extend downtime.

On Days 3 - 6

Peeling typically begins on Day 3 and may continue through Day 6. During this time, your skin may feel tight, dry, or itchy. Visible flaking, shedding, or a bronzed texture is expected.

Moisturize & Protect:

  • Once peeling begins, apply a thin layer of Post Peel Moisturizer to the treated areas 2–3 times daily to relieve dryness and tightness.
  • Continue use of Post Peel Moisturizer for:
    – One week for Caucasian skin
    – Two weeks for Asian, Black, Hispanic, and Indian skin
  • If you run out of Post Peel Moisturizer, you may substitute with 1% over-the-counter hydrocortisone cream, unless contraindicated.

Day 7+

The peeling process is generally complete. Continue to protect your skin with Mineral Perfection SPF 30.

You may resume your regular skin care products unless your skin is not fully healed. If you have residual irritation or mild peeling, wait until your skin is 100% healed.

Delay any resurfacing treatments for at least 2–4 weeks for lighter skin types. Black, Asian, and tanned skin types should delay for at least 4 weeks.

Until Fully Healed

To support proper healing and protect your results, please avoid the following until all peeling, dryness, and sensitivity have fully resolved:

  • Do not rub, pick, or pull at peeling or sloughing skin—even light flaking
  • Do not shave the treated area, as this can cause irritation or disrupt healing
  • Avoid all exfoliants, including scrubs, masks, AHAs, BHAs, and retinoids
  • Avoid waxing, laser treatments, or any resurfacing procedures in the treated area
  • Do not use loofahs, washcloths, cleansing brushes, or any mechanical exfoliation tools
  • Avoid sweating, hot tubs, saunas, and swimming until the skin is fully healed
  • Avoid all scented lotions, soaps, and products, as fragrance can irritate healing skin
  • Avoid makeup until the peeling process is complete and skin is intact
  • Continue to apply Mineral Perfection SPF 30 daily and reapply every 2 hours during any sun exposure, even after visible peeling ends

Please review these instructions carefully so nothing is missed. Proper post-care reduces the risk of irritation or pigmentary changes and supports better, more even results.
