Your skin is especially delicate during the initial healing period. Even when visible peeling has stopped, the skin barrier may still be recovering.
DO NOT PICK, PEEL, OR EXFOLIATE
The bronzing, sandpaper-like texture, MENDs, and peeling are all expected parts of your recovery.
-
Do not scratch, pick, scrub, rub, or attempt to remove peeling skin.
-
Allow all MENDs and flaking to shed naturally.
-
Avoid cleansing brushes, exfoliating cloths, facial scrubs, and other abrasive tools.
-
Premature removal of healing tissue can increase the risk of infection, scarring, and unwanted pigment changes.
AVOID EXCESSIVE HEAT & SWEATING
-
Avoid strenuous exercise, excessive sweating, hot yoga, saunas, steam rooms, and hot tubs until your skin has healed.
-
Shower using lukewarm water rather than hot water.
-
Avoid exposing the treated area to direct heat.
AVOID IRRITATING PRODUCTS & TREATMENTS
-
Do not use retinol, tretinoin, exfoliating acids, acne treatments, or other active skincare ingredients during initial healing.
-
Avoid fragranced products, essential oils, and skincare not included in your recovery regimen.
-
Avoid facials, chemical peels, dermaplaning, and other skin treatments.
-
Do not shave, wax, or use hair-removal products on the treated area until healed.
-
Avoid swimming pools, hot tubs, and other potentially irritating or contaminated water.
-
Avoid allowing shampoo, conditioner, or other potentially irritating products to run over treated skin.
MAKEUP
Avoid makeup during the initial healing period. You may resume makeup once peeling has completely resolved, the skin is intact, and your provider’s instructions permit it.
NECK, CHEST & BODY TREATMENTS
These areas may require additional healing time. Continue gentle skincare and all recovery precautions until the treated skin has fully healed, even if this extends beyond two weeks.
After approximately two weeks, you may gradually resume your regular skincare products, including active ingredients, unless your Allure provider has instructed otherwise.
Before reintroducing corrective products, make sure all peeling and MENDs have resolved and your skin is no longer experiencing significant redness, irritation, or sensitivity.
Products to reintroduce cautiously include:
-
Retinol, tretinoin, and other retinoids
-
Glycolic acid, salicylic acid, and other exfoliating acids
-
Vitamin C serums
-
Exfoliating pads, scrubs, and acne treatments
-
Other active or potentially irritating skincare products
Introduce products gradually rather than restarting your entire routine at once.
If your skin remains sensitive or is taking longer to heal, continue your gentle recovery routine and delay restarting active ingredients until your skin has recovered.
Your Allure provider can help guide you through transitioning back to your personalized ZO Skin Health regimen if needed.
