Post Care

If you elected not to remain in-office for immediate post-treatment cooling, apply the Velez cold compress mask and cooling spray, if dispensed, as soon as possible — ideally within the first hour after your treatment. Cooling helps reduce residual heat, soothe the skin, and support proper healing. It can also help prevent inflammation and pigment changes, especially in sensitive or pigment-prone skin types.

• • Do not wash the treated area on the day of your procedure.
  • It is normal for the skin to feel extremely warm for 1–2 hours after treatment. Warmth may persist for up to 12–24 hours.
  • You may use cold compresses for comfort.
  • A mineral water spray may also help soothe the skin and provide gentle hydration during this time.

• Swelling is common and expected immediately after treatment. Use cold compresses to reduce swelling and discomfort.
• To minimize swelling, especially under the eyes, consider sleeping with your head elevated for the first 2–3 nights. Swelling often peaks the morning after treatment and typically resolves within 2–4 days.
• Redness is also expected and often intensifies over the first few days, with day 3 being the most noticeable. Redness may persist for up to 7 days, depending on the intensity of your treatment.
• You may notice MENDs (microscopic epidermal necrotic debris) starting on day 2 or 3. These will appear as tiny dark spots or a bronzed, sandpaper-like texture as the skin regenerates. This is a normal part of the healing process.
• Your skin will begin to flake and peel as the MENDs slough off—do not pick or scrub the area. Follow the cleansing and moisturizing instructions in the next section to support healthy healing and minimize stress to the skin.

• Cleanse the skin twice daily with plain, lukewarm water and a gentle cleanser, starting the morning after treatment. Use your hands and pat gently.
• Do not rub, scrub, or use any exfoliants or cleansing tools such as a Clarisonic.
• Moisturize generously using clean hands. Reapply any time your skin feels dry to maintain hydration and support healing.
• Do not apply any products not approved by your provider. This includes:
  – Essential oils
  – Coconut oil
  – Retinols
  – Abrasive products
  – Serums or creams not explicitly recommended
  Following this protocol helps protect the healing skin and optimize your results.

• Protect the treated area from sun exposure by wearing a wide-brimmed hat or protective clothing any time you’re outdoors. This is essential to prevent blistering, scarring, hyperpigmentation, and hypopigmentation while the skin continues to recover.

Daily sunscreen use is essential beginning the day after your treatment and should be continued consistently for at least 3 months post-procedure.

• Use only a physical (mineral-based) sunscreen with broad-spectrum UVA/UVB protection and an SPF of 30 or higher.
• Reapply during any sun exposure, especially if outdoors for extended periods or after sweating.

This helps protect your results and prevents long-term pigmentation changes.

Please avoid all of the following to protect the skin and prevent irritation:

• Scented lotions or soaps
• When showering, avoid getting shampoo directly on the treated area(s) to prevent irritation.
• Exfoliating products, including Retin-A, glycolic/salicylic acid, and alpha-hydroxy acids
• Acne creams or gels
• Loofahs, exfoliating cloths, or aggressive scrubbing
• Hot or cold water – use only tepid (lukewarm) water when cleansing the area(s)
• Shaving the treated area(s)
• Swimming pools or spas with chlorine or other chemical treatments
• Activities that cause sweating, such as strenuous exercise or saunas
• Avoid wearing makeup until the peeling process is fully complete.
• After the first two weeks, use only soft cloths and towels—do not scrub the skin.
