Post Care

Broadband Light (BBL)

alert

BroadBand Light treatments have minimal downtime and a low risk of complications. However, proper aftercare is important for best results:

  • If your skin appears broken or a blister develops, apply a thin layer of antibiotic ointment and monitor the area closely.
  • Keep the treated area moisturized and avoid direct sun exposure while healing.

POST-CARE POLICIES

For 24 Hours

  • A cold compress or ice pack may be used for comfort, especially if the treated area feels warm. This is typically only needed within the first 12 hours after treatment.
  • Redness, swelling, or a mild sunburn-like sensation is normal and may last from a few hours to several days. Applying an ice pack intermittently during the first 24 hours can help reduce swelling.
  • Makeup may be applied immediately after treatment, as long as the skin’s surface remains intact and shows no signs of blistering or open areas.

For 1 Week

  • You may apply Vitamin E or Aloe Vera to the treated area for a soothing effect.
  • Post-treatment discomfort is typically minimal. If needed, you may take oral pain relievers such as Extra Strength Tylenol or Advil, as long as they are not contraindicated with your current medications or medical conditions.
  • It’s normal to experience some redness (erythema) and slight swelling (edema) around treated vessels. These areas may appear lighter, smudged, or less defined during the healing process.
  • In rare cases, crusting may occur in the treated area. If this happens, apply antibiotic ointment twice daily and avoid picking or scratching. Disturbing these areas may lead to infection or scarring.

For 2 Weeks

  • Freckles and sunspots may darken initially and then flake off within 7–14 days. This is a normal and desired response as the pigmentation rises to the surface.
  • Strictly avoid all sun exposure to the treated area for a minimum of 14 days, as the skin will be more sensitive and prone to pigmentation changes or sunburn.
  • After the initial 14 days, continue using broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) and reapply every 2 hours when outdoors. Keep the area covered whenever possible.
  • Delayed blistering has been reported when sun exposure occurs within 72 hours post-treatment.
  • If you are undergoing a series of phototherapy treatments, sun exposure should be avoided between sessions and daily sunscreen use is essential for safe and effective results.

Until Fully Healed

Please avoid all of the following to protect the skin and prevent irritation:

  • Scented lotions or soaps
  • Exfoliating products, including Retin-A, glycolic/salicylic acid, and alpha-hydroxy acids
  • Acne creams or gels
  • Loofahs, exfoliating cloths, or aggressive scrubbing
  • Hot or cold water – use only tepid (lukewarm) water when cleansing the area(s)
  • Shaving the treated area(s)
  • Swimming pools or spas with chlorine or other chemical treatments
  • Activities that cause sweating, such as strenuous exercise or saunas

Until Bruising & Swelling Have Resolved

  • Avoid tanning and prolonged sun exposure, as this may lead to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
  • Continue to avoid exercise until all visible bruising has healed, as increased circulation can prolong the recovery process.

Please read these instructions carefully to ensure nothing is missed. Proper post-care not only minimizes the risk of complications and speeds up healing—it also helps achieve the best possible results.)
