Laser Hair Removal

alert

Laser hair removal has a very short recovery time and a low risk of complications. Following the guidance below helps your skin heal smoothly between sessions.

Important: Do not use any other hair removal methods on the treated area during the course of your treatments — no tweezing, waxing, or depilatory creams. Shaving is the only acceptable method between sessions. Other methods disrupt the hair follicle and prevent the laser from working effectively.

Please contact our office at (610) 393-1253 if you experience:

  • Blistering or skin that appears broken
  • Hives or an irritated, raised rash on the treated area (Benadryl may help relieve itching, unless contraindicated by your medications or medical history)
  • Crusting that worsens or shows signs of infection
  • Severe or spreading redness, fever, drainage, or increasing pain

If it is after hours, leave a message and we will follow up within 24 hours. If you believe you are experiencing a medical emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.

POST-CARE POLICIES

For 24 Hours

  • A cold compress or ice pack may be used for comfort, especially if the treated area feels warm. This is typically only needed within the first 12 hours.
  • Redness, swelling, or a mild sunburn-like sensation is normal and may last from a few hours to several days. Intermittent ice can help reduce swelling.
  • Makeup may be applied immediately after treatment, as long as the skin remains intact and shows no signs of blistering or open areas.

For 1 Week

  • You may apply Vitamin E or Aloe Vera to the treated area for a soothing effect.
  • Post-treatment discomfort is typically minimal. If needed, Tylenol or Advil may be used, unless contraindicated based on your medications or medical history.
  • Some redness and slight swelling around hair follicles is normal — they may appear lighter or smudgy during healing.
  • In the rare case of crusting in the treated area, apply antibiotic ointment twice daily and avoid picking or scratching, which may lead to infection or scarring.

For 2 Weeks

  • Freckles and sunspots may darken initially and flake off within 7–14 days. This is a normal response.
  • Strictly avoid all sun exposure to the treated area for a minimum of 14 days. The skin is more prone to sunburn and pigmentation changes, which can be permanent.
  • After 14 days, keep the area covered and use broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher), reapplying every 2 hours.
  • Delayed blistering has been reported when sun exposure occurs within 72 hours post-treatment.
  • If you are in the middle of a treatment series, sun avoidance and daily sunscreen use should continue between sessions.

Until Fully Healed

Please avoid all of the following to protect the skin and prevent irritation:

  • Scented lotions or soaps
  • Exfoliating products, including Retin-A, glycolic/salicylic acid, and alpha-hydroxy acids
  • Acne creams or gels
  • Shampoo or hair products touching the treated area
  • Loofahs, exfoliating cloths, or aggressive scrubbing
  • Hot or cold water — use only tepid (lukewarm) water when cleansing the area
  • Shaving the treated area
  • Swimming pools or spas with chlorine or other chemical treatments
  • Activities that cause sweating, such as strenuous exercise or saunas

Please review these instructions carefully so nothing is missed. Proper post-care reduces the risk of irritation or pigment changes and supports better, more consistent results across your treatment series.
