Medical Weight Loss

alert

Medical weight loss treatment is a long-term partnership. Most side effects from GLP-1 medications are mild and improve as your body adjusts, but please contact our office at (610) 393-1253 if you experience:

  • Severe or persistent nausea or vomiting that prevents you from eating or staying hydrated
  • Severe abdominal pain, especially pain that radiates to your back (this can be a sign of pancreatitis and requires urgent evaluation)
  • Right upper abdominal pain, fever, or yellowing of the skin or eyes (possible gallbladder concerns)
  • Symptoms of low blood sugar if you are diabetic, including dizziness, confusion, sweating, or shakiness
  • Signs of an allergic reaction, including hives, swelling of the face or throat, or difficulty breathing
  • A lump or swelling in your neck, hoarseness, trouble swallowing, or shortness of breath
  • Severe diarrhea or constipation that is not improving with the supportive measures below

If it is after hours, leave a message and we will follow up within 24 hours. If you believe you are experiencing a medical emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.

  • Stay Hydrated: Drink at least 60 oz of water per day to help your body adjust to the medication and minimize potential side effects such as nausea or constipation.
  • Eat Smaller, More Frequent Meals: Prioritize protein and fiber to help regulate digestion, maintain muscle mass, and keep you feeling full while consuming fewer calories.
  • Take Miralax If Needed: If you experience constipation or other GI side effects, taking Miralax as needed can help minimize discomfort and keep digestion regular.
  • Avoid Alcohol: Alcohol is not beneficial for weight loss and can interfere with your progress. Avoiding it altogether will support better results and reduce the risk of unnecessary side effects.
  • Continue Tracking Progress: Keep track of your weight, energy levels, appetite, and any side effects. This helps your provider make necessary adjustments to your medication and treatment plan.
  • Stay Consistent With Follow-Ups: Regular check-ins with your provider help ensure you’re on track and allow for adjustments to your dosage or lifestyle recommendations as needed.
  • Plan for Long-Term Success: As you lose weight, your provider will guide you on how to maintain your results, whether that includes tapering to a maintenance dose or making sustainable lifestyle adjustments.

Medication Storage & Injection Instructions

  • Store Medication Properly: Keep your medication refrigerated and away from light until you are ready for injection.
  • Medication Safety: The medication is for your use only and should be kept out of reach of children or others in the household.

Injection Steps:

  1. Prepare Your Injection: Remove one syringe from the refrigerator immediately before your scheduled injection.
  2. Clean the Injection Site: Wipe the injection site with an alcohol wipe. If desired, you may ice the area before injection, but do so before applying alcohol to the skin.
  3. Pinch the Skin & Insert the Needle: Pinch the skin at the injection site to create a skin fold. Injection sites can be the abdomen, thigh, or back of the arm.
  4. Administer the Injection: Insert the needle into the skin fold at a 90-degree angle and ensure the entire needle tip is inserted. Press the plunger to inject the medication.
  5. Dispose of the Syringe Safely: Remove the syringe and place it in a closable, hard plastic container. Secure the lid before disposing of it in the trash. Please review these instructions carefully so nothing is missed. Sustainable weight loss is built on consistency — medication, hydration, nutrition, and steady communication with your provider work together to support long-term results.
