Dermal Fillers

alert

Bruising, swelling, pain, tenderness, redness, and itching are normal responses and should go away within two weeks.

If you experience any of the following, you should contact the office immediately:

  • Recurring blisters or skin sores, as these may signal the presence of a herpes infection that must be treated.
  • Signs of infection, such as fever, redness that spreads to surrounding areas, drainage, increasing tenderness, or increasing pain that does not go away.
  • A white or blue appearance of the skin near the injection site, numbness, or change in texture, which may signify an occlusion that must be treated immediately.
  • Any unusual pain, vision changes, difficulty speaking, numbness in the face, arms, or legs, difficulty walking, severe headache, facial drooping, dizziness, or confusion, as these may signify other complications that must be treated immediately.

If you experience any healing concerns, such as bruises traveling from one area to another, changes in skin texture, excessive pain, excessive peeling or dryness of the lips, numbness, or blue or white discoloration of the skin, please contact us immediately at (610) 393-1253. If it is after hours, please make sure to leave us a message and we will follow-up within 24 hours.

If you believe you are experiencing a medical emergency, please call 911.

Lip Filler

  • Avoid dental appointments and teeth whitening for at least 2 weeks post-procedure.
  • Avoid kissing/intimate oral actions and smoking/vaping/hookah.
  • Avoid biting your lips.
  • Avoid pursing of the lips, which includes using straws or water bottles (wide-brimmed mugs or plastic cups are best).
  • Carefully review the above as all of these actions will increase the potential for creasing and/or lumping.

Nose Filler

  • Avoid wearing glasses that rest against the bridge of the nose.
  • Avoid wearing any tight-fitting masks. Please use an equally safe alternative if use of a mask is required.
  • Avoid making frown faces between the brows as this can push the filler to the sides at the top of the nose.
  • The filler is moldable for the first two weeks. We recommend pinching the sides of the nose upward and tapping down gently in the center of the bridge to help it settle correctly.

Temple Filler

  • After bruising has subsided, apply firm pressure to blend the area in for the first two weeks

Cheek/Jawline/Under Eye Filler:

  • Avoid wearing any tight-fitting masks (such as N95’s). Please use an equally safe alternative if use of a mask is required.

BroadBand Light (BBL)

alert

Broadband Light therapies have a very short recovery time and low risk of complications. However, if the skin appears broken or a blister appears after treatment, please apply antibiotic ointment and contact the office immediately. Keep the affected area moisturized and avoid direct sunlight.

In rare cases, hives have been reported after laser hair reduction treatments. If you experience an irritated, raised rash after hair removal treatment, please contact the office. Benadryl may be taken to help relieve the itchiness, as long as it is not contraindicated with any of your current medications or medical conditions.

If you believe you are experiencing a medical emergency, please contact 911.

hours

24

First 24 hours after treatment

  • A cold compress or an ice pack can be used to provide comfort if the treated area is especially warm. This is typically only needed within the first 12 hours after treatment.
  • Skin may appear red and swollen or have a mild sunburn sensation. This is a normal reaction. It can last from a few hours to days after treatment. Applying an ice pack for the first 24 hours will help minimize swelling.
  • Makeup may be applied immediately after treatment as long as skin integrity has not been compromised.
week

1

For one week after treatment

  • Vitamin E or Aloe Vera applied to the treatment area may provide a soothing effect. Post treatment discomfort is typically minimal, but if the area is very uncomfortable, oral pain relievers; i.e. Extra Strength Tylenol or Advil, may be used, so long as they are not contraindicated with any of your medications or medical conditions.
  • There may be erythema (redness) and slight edema (swelling) around the treated vessels. Often they are lighter in appearance and look somewhat smudgy or less defined.
  • In the unusual case of crusting of the skin in the treated area, apply an antibiotic ointment twice per day to the affected areas. Do not pick these areas, as this may result in infection or scarring.
weeks

2

For two weeks after treatment

  • Freckles and sunspots may turn slightly darker initially and then flake off within 7-14 days. This is a desired and normal reaction.
  • Strictly avoid any sun exposure to the treated area for a minimum of 14 days after the procedure. The treated area is more prone to sunburn and pigmentation changes, which can be permanent. After 14 days, keep the area covered and use a sun block with SPF 30 or above and reapply every 2 hours. Delayed blistering secondary to sun exposure has been noted up to 72 hours post treatment.
  • If in the middle of a series of phototherapy treatments, sun exposure should be avoided between treatments and a sunblock should be used on a daily basis.
until healed

Until fully
healed

  • Avoid all of the following:
    • Use of scented lotions or soaps, exfoliant creams (Retin-A, glycolic/salicylic and alpha-hydroxy acids), acne creams or gels, shampoo or hair products touching the treated area(s), loofa sponges and aggressive scrubbing
    • Hot or cold water – only wash with tepid water
    • Shaving
    • Swimming pools and spas with multiple chemicals/chlorine
    • Activities that cause sweating
  • If you received BBL treatments for the purpose of hair removal – Do not use any other hair removal methods or products on the treated area during the course of your laser treatments (tweezing, waxing, and depilatories), as it will prevent you from achieving your best results.
  • While lasers and phototherapy treatments do an excellent job at correcting skin concerns, they are not preventative treatments. Sun protection and proper skin care is a must to prevent issues from recurring.
  • Lasers and phototherapy treatments are second-line treatments, while a proper skin care regimen should serve as the primary treatment. Results will be limited if proper skin care is not being utilized.
  • For those with melasma and rosacea, heat must be avoided to prevent flare ups. This includes saunas, hot tubs, hot baths, hot yoga, sun exposure, etc. A physical sunscreen should also be used rather than a chemical sunscreen to avoid heating of the skin.

alert

There may be some degree of swelling immediately post-treatment, however, if you experience excessive swelling or any of the following signs of infection, you should contact the office immediately.

Signs of infection include:

  • Drainage – looks like pus
  • Increased warmth at or around the treated area. (The area may be warm for the first 24 hours, but please contact us if the warmth is increasing or is still present after 24 hours)
  • Fever
  • Extreme itching

If you believe you are experiencing a medical emergency, please call 911.

day of

Same day

  • Do not wash the treated area(s)
  • The treated area(s) may be extremely warm for 1-2 hours after the treatment. Warmth may continue for 12-24 hours after the treatment. Cold compresses may provide comfort during this time. Please avoid using ice or ice packs directly, as these may stick to the skin. A mineral water spray might provide some relief and much needed moisture to the skin.
  • If you are using a Velez Hydration Mask after your treatment, please continue wearing it for up to 2 hours. If the mask is dry when it is time to remove it, please rehydrate it with water before removing it gently.
  • While it is best for healing to avoid makeup as much as possible, it is safe to apply makeup after 24 hours.
week

1

For one week after treatment

  • Swelling is common and expected immediately after treatment. Use of a cold compress will help to relieve the swelling. To avoid further swelling, you may choose to sleep in an upright position for the first 2-3 nights after treatment. The first morning post-treatment is when swelling is most prevalent, especially under the eyes. Swelling may last 2-4 days.
  • Redness is normal and expected. Redness generally increases in intensity for the first few days after treatment with day 3 usually being the most intense. Redness can persist for up to 7 days depending on the intensity of treatment and your individual skin. Please follow the cleansing and moisturizing instructions in the next section to help the skin heal and limit further irritation.
  • MENDs (microscopic epidermal necrotic debris) will appear on the 2nd or 3rd day after treatment as tiny dark spots and bronzed appearance to the treated skin. MENDs are part of the healing process where treated tissue is working its way out of your body as fresh skin is regenerated. During this time, your skin will be very dry and feel like sandpaper before flaking and peeling off. It may be difficult to apply makeup due to the texture for several days. Do not pick at your skin and follow the moisturizing instructions in the next section to help the skin heal.
weeks

2

For two weeks after treatment

  • Cleanse the skin two times per day with plain, lukewarm water and a gentle cleanser, beginning the morning after treatment. Use your hands and gentle patting motions. DO NOT rub, scrub, or use an exfoliant or skin care brush such as a Clarisonic on the area.
  • Moisturizer should be applied generously with clean hands over the treated area and reapplied whenever your skin feels dry.
  • DO NOT apply any other products that were not instructed by your provider such as essential oils, coconut oil, retinols, abrasive products, or any other creams or serums.

For two months after treatment

  • Use a wide-brimmed hat or protective clothing for two months post treatment to avoid blistering, scarring, hyperpigmentation and hypopigmentation.
months

3

For three months after treatment

  • Sunscreen is a MUST and should be used daily beginning the day after treatment and used consistently for 3 months post procedure. Use only physical sunscreens with broadband UVA and UVB protection and an SPF of 30. Be sure to reapply during any sun exposure.

Until fully healed

  • When showering, avoid getting shampoo directly on the treated area(s).
  • After two weeks, you may use a soft wash cloth and soft towels, but avoid any scrubbing until healing is complete.

Same Day

  • The treated area(s) will feel tight and may appear darker for 1-2 days.
  • Leave the peel solution on the treated area(s) for at least 6 hours. Do not wash, touch, rub, apply SPF, or apply makeup to the area(s).
  • The Post Peel Moisturizer with 1% hydrocortisone, which is included in the Patient Home Care Kit, may be used after 6 hours only if:

    • Your skin is a Fitzpatrick type 4-6, you have melasma, or you have hyperpigmentation
    • The Perfect Derma Clear, Plus, or Plus Plus booster was added to your treatment.
  • The peel self-neutralizes after 6 hours, at which time you may cleanse your skin with water and a gentle cleanser or leave the peel on overnight if desired.
days

2

  • The morning after treatment:
    • Gently wash and dry the treated areas by patting, not rubbing.
    • Vigorously apply the 1st Peel Towelette to the treated areas while in its square, folded shape. Continue to apply the towelette and, as it dries out, unfold it completely and continue to apply until all solution is used.
    • Allow the skin to dry for 30 minutes before applying Mineral Perfection SPF 30.
    • Makeup may be worn if desired

*Please note that the skin will become irritated after using the towelette. A clean, sterilized cool mist humidifier or a fan may help soothe the skin. If it is not contraindicated with any of your health conditions or medications, you may use Tylenol before applying the towelette. Plan accordingly with your schedule as the discomfort may make it difficult to work if you have sensitive skin, but it should subside in about an hour.

  • If you are experiencing irritation, apply a small amount of Post Peel Moisturizer 2-3 times daily. You may also apply a clean cold compress against the irritated area for relief.
  • If there is no significant irritation, do not use any moisturizing products on the treated area(s) until peeling begins (usually Day 3).
  • On the evening of day 2:
    • 30-60 minutes before bedtime, gently wash and dry the treated areas.
    • Vigorously apply the 2nd Peel Towelette to the treated areas while in its square, folded shape. Continue to apply the towelette, and as it dries out, unfold it completely. Continue to apply until all solutions are used.
    • Leave the towelette solution on overnight.
days

3

  • Peeling generally beings on Day 3.
  • Apply a thin layer of Post Peel Moisturizer to the treated area(s) 2-3 times per day once peeling begins to control dryness and relieve tightness.
    • Please Use the Post Peel Moisturizer as follows:
      • One week for Caucasian patients
      • Two weeks for Asian, Black, Hispanic, and Indian patients
    • If you run out of Post Peel Moisturizer, an over the counter 1% hydrocortisone cream may be used.
  • Do not pick, rub, or pull on peeling skin, as this may cause scarring.
  • Gently wash and pat dry the treated areas morning and night.
  • Do not use scrubs, masks, or any strong products such as retinoids.
  • Avoid using any loofahs, rough washcloths, or electric brushes. It is important to let the skin shed at its own pace and not force the process. You may use clean scissors to trim excess peeling skin conservatively but be careful not to pull.
  • Mineral Perfection SPF 30 should be applied every two hours during sun exposure, though significant sun exposure should be avoided.
